The thematic routes around Cluny
The ancient Benedictine city is situated in the heart of a number of bucolic villages abounding in extremely rich natural and historical sites. Between the plains of the Saône, the granite massifs of the Beaujolais to the south and the gentle valleys of the Charolais region to the west, the Clunisois, with its ocre, pink and red-coloured hilltops, is a land of contrast.
All the valleys are covered in rich pasturage, meadows and forests. The vineyards, standing witnesses of the neighbouring Mâconnais, are an integral part of the landscape.
This area, with its many churches and chapels dotted throughout the countryside, also forms a prestigious Romanesque garden.
To travel the region and discover its heritage there is nothing better than to take one of the thematic routes proposed.
