The National Stud
Between culture and sport, the horse under all its facets in Cluny
With the creation of the deposit's stallions of Cluny, city recognized in the whole world thanks to the last radiation of its abbey, in 1807 by Napoleon I, it was natural to place the first stallion in the Saint-Hugues stables attached to the abbey of Cluny. The buildings which shelter today the horses were built between 1814 for the oldest stable and 1880.
The horse, bond between sport and culture, become not only one union feature between an important project of cultural valorization of the abbey but also the factor of a sporting horse pole development, Equivallée, validated and carried by the department.
The National stud farm is today one of the essential components of this vast project, supported by the District council of Burgundy, the General advice of Saône-et-Loire and the municipality. This project aims at connecting in the same unit, the National stud farm, the racecourse and the Horse Club.
