Cité Abbaye de Cluny

The Benedictine abbey of Cluny was founded in 910. Head office of more than thousand monasteries, it radiates during all Middle Ages on the Occidental Europe.

The great abbey returned :

Founded in 910, Cluny Abbey influenced Europe throughout the Middle Ages with its uncommly large abbey church : the "Maior Ecclesia". The highest arches in the Roman world still attest to its gigantic proportions. The restored relics of the immense abbey church and the areas where 18th century buildings stood have been refurbished for the 1.100th anniversary of the abbey's foundation, inviting the visitor to rediscover this unique place. A 3D film (room in work) and virtual reproductions complete the tour and recive the majesty of what was the largest church in Chritianity.

The Centre des monuments nationaux offers you various visits to discover the abbey throughout the year :
  • Free tours (with document in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish)
  • Guided tours (every day, French)
  • Visit with audio guide (French, English, Italian)
