Historian and politician
(1811-1894), historian and politician, Minister of State Education from 1863 to 1869.
During his time as Minister Victor Duruy was behind the installation in Cluny Abbey of the Ecole normale secondaire spéciale, an institution responsible for training technical teachers, who were sadly lacking in France.
This first installation in 1866 saw the beginning of the constant presence of schools, through until the transformation in 1901 of the Ecole de Contremaître et d’Ouvriers into the Ecole des Arts et Métiers, which is still present here today, and known as Arts et Métiers Paritech.
